Nick Balmforth was a founder director of the Play Inspection Company.

Nick has both pioneered and led the evolving process of independent safety standardization in the indoor play industry.

Nick authored the industry’s first independent safety guidelines and codes of practice before his appointment as convenor of both BSI and CEN standardization committees responsible for the production of the industry’s British and European Safety Standards.

Nick co-authored a publication on the risk-assessment of indoor play areas and was a member of a working group that produced expert published guidance on a fire risk-assessment method for indoor play facilities.

Nick was a member of the panel that produced both the syllabus and the examination procedures for the RPII Fully Enclosed Play Equipment examination.

In 2003 Nick was awarded Fellowship of the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management for his work and achievements in indoor play. In 2010 he received the Play Providers Association’s Aspire Legend lifetime achievement award.
